Wellness Week

Listed below are the events taking place during the 3rd annual Minneapolis Public Schools Wellness Week.  The week is filled with a host of fun, free and active opportunities for schools and staff.  Click here for a printable schedule of events.

Minneapolis Public Schools cares about the health and wellness of our employees and students. We are dedicated to helping employees and students lead healthy, balanced lives by providing opportunities to make healthy choices at work, school and home. The MPS Wellness Committee is hosting Wellness Week May 2-6 to promote and support environments where healthy lifestyle choices are respected and encouraged. We have highlighted one key event taking place each day throughout the week and we encourage you to come up with some of your own ideas. Here’s how your school can participate in and promote Wellness Week:

Monday, May 2: Junior Iron Chef Competition | Staff Gear Up and Go Kick-Off

  • Nutrition Services and the True Food Chef Council will host MPS' second-annual student cooking competition. This exciting event will take place at Solar Arts by Chow Girls.
  • In addition, May 4 will be the kick-off day for the next staff challenge, Gear Up and Go 2016! Earn your 2016 well-being activity for HealthPartners insurance by regular biking over the months of May, June, & July.

Tuesday, May 3: ReThink Your Drink | National Teacher Day

  • High School students will enjoy samples of fruit infused water during lunch.  Think water is boring?  Think again!  Receipes can be found here.

Wednesday, May 4: Bike & Walk to School & Work Day | National School Nurse Day

  • Schools that register with MPS Safe Routes to School will receive a prize package that includes everything needed to put on a successful event. DETAILS
  • May 4 is also the annual MPS Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Bike Day event where over 200 DAPE students will practice independent biking skills using various adapted bikes on the Washburn High School track. A second DAPE bicycle event will take place on May 11 on the North High School track.
