A walking bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. It's that simple.

Thinking about starting a Walking Bus at your school? The handout "Starting a Walking School Bus" is available in English and Spanish and provides an overview walking buses and how to get started. The handout "Adult Crossing Guard Guidelines" provides step-by-step instructions for leading walking buses through multiple, unsignalized intersections.

Watch a walking bus in action: The Lyndale Walking Bus is the first of four grassroots wellness stories profiled in this Making It Better video. You'll have to cut and paste to watch it from home, though. It is currently available only on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZMUKGdYOM4&feature=relmfu

If volunteers are worried about liability, here is a consent form they can use. A frequent walkers punchcard can help motivate children to make walking to school a regular habit.
